Why you should try nature bathing
Getting outside in the fresh air can do wonders for our mental health as well as our physical health. Time spent in nature is said to reduce blood pressure, improve concentration and benefit our immune system.
Rest days are an ideal opportunity to try Shinrin-yoku aka ‘Forest bathing’, which was developed in Japan during the 1980s. The aim of this practice is to leave technology behind and be present in the moment. Take in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest and let your body mindfully guide you whilst wandering. Pause for a moment to look around at the sights above and below, as well as savouring the colours of the season.
If you live locally to Neath Port Talbot, we’d recommend a visit to the Afan Forest, Gnoll Park or Margam Park. For further information about forest bathing and its benefits, check out The Forest Bathing Institute.
