What's your 'why'?
Last year I went to a @psyclelondon class and before we‘d even started to ride, the instructor asked each person in the class to close their eyes and think of someone or something to ride for that day. This could have be a person or for your own health. The purpose of this exercise was to have a reason to be riding and to keep it in mind when the going got tough.
Immediately after the class, I realised just how much of an impact this seemingly small ask had on my drive and determination that day, so I decided to incorporate it into my everyday training.
This question of "Who, why or what are you doing this for?" has stuck with me since and I've also applied this approach to my running and resistance training. Remembering your reason for training can help to add motivation and incentive to each session, as well as helping to give you perspective when times get tough.
Ultramarathon runner @oakes.fiona has said in the past that her passion for distance running and pushing through pain barriers comes from her belief that the animals that she advocates for don't get to choose when their pain stops. Our ambassador @guyilott is a passionate advocate for @petalscharity and is inspired to raise awareness for them through his distance running.
So the next time you're about to set out on your next ride, run or hike, close your eyes for a second before and ask yourself "Who or what am I doing this for today?". You might be surprised by how much it inspires you to keep pushing on!
