Well-beings
As VALA grows each month, the importance of wellbeing and the concept of ‘balance’ has become something that I feel more and more passionate about sharing.
As athletes and sportspeople, we often love being active so much that we forget that rest and recovery is just as important as movement. It feels as though sometimes we’re so busy training our bodies that we forget to train our minds.
The British government defines wellbeing as ‘A positive physical, social and mental state’ and I couldn’t agree more. I recently asked the question “What does wellbeing mean to you?” on our Instagram stories, and your responses were so inspiring that I’ve shared them below.
Wellbeing is…
▪️ A good balance of home/work/personal life
▪️ Heath and happiness, not live to work
▪️ Putting your health over work and other stresses in life… every day if possible!
▪️ Being happy without materialistic ‘things’ - taking time to breathe and embrace life
▪️ Working out that if you put the wrong thing in your body it affects you mentally - skip them!
▪️ Balancing being selfish and selfless
▪️ Exercise, strong social ties and a positive work/life balance
If these answers have got you thinking about your own wellbeing, I encourage you to find some time this weekend - whether you’re being active or resting - to think about how you can bring more balance to your week in order to enhance your overall sense of wellbeing.
It doesn’t have to be a huge overhaul of your lifestyle - this could be as simple as going for a 20 minute ‘reset’ lunchtime walk, trying a new yoga class or doing a guided body scan run once a week. Small changes all add up and compound to give us a greater and more fulfilling sense of wellbeing.
