The Story of VALA's Branding
When I was coming up for the name for what is now VALA, I knew that I wanted it to be completely unrelated to the sports nutrition world. I've always found it quite difficult to connect with a lot of the sports nutrition brands that were in the market and their names and branding never really appealed to me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I spent weeks coming up with a brand name and I eventually resorted to looking up Welsh baby names online. I stumbled across VALA and I immediately loved the look of it. I get asked at least once a week what it means! It’s a Welsh girls’ name meaning ‘Chosen’, which resonated with me as I always encourage athletes to choose natural where possible and VALA is a 100% natural gel.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

During the branding process, I found myself thinking “Wouldn’t it be great to have a brand that doesn’t seem overly ‘sporty’ or dated?… One that has minimal monochrome branding that would look as good on a t-shirt or sports bottle as it does on the gel sachet?”. Maybe that’s the millennial in me, but I felt that I couldn’t be the only one that wanted a more modern take on sports nutrition!
With a background in fashion and graphic design, I designed the VALA logo way back in 2018, around the time when a lot of the big fashion houses like Saint Laurent and Celine were rebranding. I immediately fell in love with their minimal black and white branding and strong fonts and thought it would be really interesting to transfer this approach to a sports brand. It seems like I wasn’t the only one who thought this way and since launching VALA we’ve received so much amazing feedback about our branding that it’s great to hear how much you all love it too!
Thank you all for tagging us in your snaps and for taking the time to send over your thoughts and feedback on our branding. VALA isn’t even a year old yet but thanks to you lovely lot it's growing and evolving every day.
