Wales never fails
It’s not hard to see why Wales was selected by @natgeo as one of the ‘Best Trips to Take in 2020’ for its ‘Far-reaching routes that get the blood pumping’. Growing up in South Wales it was easy to be spoilt for choice. As a child, it never occurred to me that not everyone lives a short drive from the sea and the mountains. This is something that I’ve come to love since moving back here after 11 years away.
It’s safe to say that the bar for natural beauty was set pretty high (or maybe that’s my patriotism showing). Fast forward a good few years and after travelling to Australia, Sri Lanka, Croatia and America, I’m often reminded of our rugged coastline and lush forests. One of my favourite places to visit is ‘Gowerfornia’, which was the first place in the U.K. to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1958.
With winding trails, open waters and sweeping tracks aplenty, Wales is a triathlete’s dream. As Nat Geo puts it so perfectly: ‘Each driving itinerary is a gateway to wider outdoor adventures.’
Gem.
