The Joys of Gratitude
Have you ever tried being grateful and…
Angry?
Jealous?
Annoyed?
Resentful?
Here’s the thing… it’s not possible.
As the saying goes “It’s impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same moment in time”.
Because gratitude is a superpower and it has the ability to transform your life… if you allow it to.
By seeing the good in a tough situation, it prevents you from getting sucked into lower vibration emotions.
Shifting your perspective to being grateful might seem hard or even illogical, but it can cause radical shifts.
These include:
▪️Increased optimism
▪️Strengthened relationships
▪️Reduced stress
Studies have even shown that practicing gratitude and counting blessings can help you to feel more happy, fulfilled and free from toxic emotions.
THAT’S HOW POWERFUL IT IS!
A while back, I watched the Ram Dass documentary ‘Going Home’ on Netflix (I’d highly recommend it!), which is all about the last few months of his life.
The most humbling part was watching him speak so graciously about a stroke that he had experienced years before. Rather than feel remorse or feel self pity for his ‘old life’, he chose to have gratitude for this experience.
He reflected on what it had taught him about grace and surrendering.
In that moment, I saw the true essence of gratitude and realised that it's a choice…
And it’s always an option.
But it’s called a ‘practice’ for a reason.
The key to gratitude is dedicating your time to it… much like meditation, you need consistency as it takes time for the effects to compound.
A few great ways to incorporate gratitude into your day include:
🎶 Listening to a gratitude song or playlist and feeling thankful for the things in life that light you up
💭 Thinking of three things each day that you are grateful for - you can write these down or speak them out loud in the morning or evening
💚 Expressing your gratitude for another person and sharing it with them
When you express how grateful you are and recognise how others have added joy to your life, it becomes harder for you to ruminate on the ‘negative’ experiences.
Take a moment today to reflect on what you’re grateful for and notice how it changes your whole mood…
