THE BENEFITS OF HAVING AN EXERCISE BUD
Exercising with a partner has countless advantages and can really help you to stay focused, as well as adding a bit of fun to your training. Three times a week I train with my sister and it helps to stay us on track and hold each other accountable. There’s no way I’m snoozing the alarm if I know she’s waiting!
If you’re interested in trying a new sport or hobby, asking a friend to join you can have heaps of benefits too. Last summer, I decided to do more surfing and paddle boarding as I wanted to feel closer to nature. My friend Michala also shares a love of water sports, so it was the perfect reason to hang out, learn a new sport and spend time outdoors. Also, we had so many laughs together that it made these surf sessions feel extra special.
Here are a few other benefits to pairing up with an exercise bud…
LEARN NEW EXERCISES
You might feel inclined to stick to your usual routine and stay within your comfort zone when training alone, but pairing up with a workout pal can open you up to a whole new world of different exercises and techniques.
STAY MOTIVATED
Rather than getting distracted by social media notifications during your workout breaks, take it in turns to alternate exercises with your pal. Being their hype-buddy can be a great motivational boost and keep you both working hard.
GET COMPETITIVE
There's nothing like a bit of friendly competition to get you working harder! Set a challenge at the beginning of each workout and use the presence of your workout partner to encourage you to smash your goals 👊🏻
