Reasons to never quit
These five short words have the ability to completely alter our mindset. I remember hearing (borderline superhuman) @charlie 🚀mention this little nugget during an interview with @edmylett and it has stuck with me ever since.⠀
⠀
Sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed before a long training session, when we’re feeling tired and looking for any excuse to flake out. Some days are harder than others - we‘re all human and have off days, after all - but it only takes a few seconds to check in and remind yourself “Hey, this session today is going to be easy and you’ll thank yourself later”.⠀
⠀
As much as I enjoy running, sometimes before a longer run (which for me is anything above 10k) I’ll start to get the jitters and begin questioning myself. I find that tuning into the subconscious and repeating this phrase in bed the night before or in the morning really does help to alter the way I approach the run. Instead of being filled with apprehension, I tell myself to think of how effortless it will be and how lucky I am to be able to run in such beautiful surroundings. Sometimes distraction really is a wonderful thing.⠀
⠀
If you ever find yourself stuck in a place of doubt, remember that you’ve been here before and pushed through with blood, sweat and tears. Remember that feeling at the end when you feel that immense wave of accomplishment. Most of all, remember that you didn’t quit when you wanted to. After all, it’s going to be easy... right?
Gem.
