How to rediscover your exercise mojo
Some days are harder to find motivation to exercise than others - we're all human, after all. On 'slower' days I like to remind myself that exercise is not only great for the body but for the mind too. It can be a really effective way to help manage stress and anxiety. This has been proven in clinical studies, as research from The University of British Columbia has found that “On high-stress days, regular exercisers’ negative effect was 14 percent lower than that of the other subjects".
I've learned from personal experience that exercise helps me to feel calmer and less sluggish throughout the day, as well as helping me to sleep better. If you're having an off day or feeling in a bit of an exercise funk, here are a few tried and tested methods that I use to get myself motivated:
▪️Tell myself that it's just 30 minutes of my day that would otherwise be lost to the Instagram black hole or TV
▪️My future self will thank me and I'll feel better afterwards
▪️Try a different workout to mix things up and refresh my perspective
▪️Find a HIIT routine that will only take up 20 minutes if I'm pushed for time
▪️Put some loud music on and do a few jumping jacks or high knees to get the blood pumping, by which point I have convinced myself to just get on with it
▪️Remember that I'm exercising not only for physical health but mental health benefits too
▪️I'm not feeling like anything high impact or fast paced, I'll put in a podcast or call a friend and go for a long walk instead
